At four years old his family moves to Japan where he lives most of his childhood until he returns to the United States for college. During this time he travels with his parents through the Iron Curtain into the Soviet Union and Northern Europe on a spy like escapade during the Cold War as his father smuggles Bibles to Churches in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Later as a teenager they travel again through the Iron Curtain again, this time through the Soviet Block countries of Eastern Europe smuggling more Bibles - these are his Missionary Family Adventures. As an adult, being fully bitten by the travel bug, Mark becomes even more driven to travel and see the world, getting a good job with a major airline. Over the years he travels to many more countries around the world in his Airline Family Adventures.
