Arman-From A Kitchen of Longing: An Afghan Cookbook
For decades, Afghanistan has been known not for its culture, food, music, and art but for war, poverty, and hardship. This book began as a way to finally show another side of my homeland while also doing what cookbooks do-standardizing and documenting popular recipes. But it became something much more. Through cooking, writing, and remembering, I returned to a country I had not seen in over forty years.
In that return, I discovered that being Afghan is more than an ethnicity or a place of birth. It is memory, loss, and belonging. It is joy and grief, often living side by side.
Arman means longing. It can also mean regret and sorrow-and wish, hope, and desire. This book was born in a kitchen of longing and sorrow. It became, ultimately, a book of wishes and hope.
This professionally designed, edited and photographed cookbook contains over 100 authentic Afghan recipes as handed down from the mother to daughter. Each recipe contains step by step instructions and most recipes contain a beautiful, full color photograph.
