This is a nice little book about the failure of the Spanish Armada. At roughly 150 pages, the book explains why this was an ill thought idea. The Admiral was not really an admiral, but an appointed aristocrat. The general who forces were to be embarked was not really interested in prepping his troops for the English conquest. The ships were not those used in mid ocean travel. All around this was not planned to any degree. The result was failure. The travel resulted in more ships lost in storms. What surprised me was how the English were just as weak. If the Spaniards had landed, they might have just conquered England. This is a nice concise story of a failure in planning and organization. If Phillip had invested adequate planning in his forcast, he might have pushed the English back toward the Catholic Church. As it was, 25-35 ships were wrecked, and 6-7 thousand people lost their life.
