Pretty Good Read

This is a book I actually enjoyed because for once the heroine didn't behave down trodden or as if she was superwoman. Rachael Summers and Diego Ortega had a summer fling that seemed pretty realistic in its inception; for once the hero and the heroine had something in common besides a sexual attraction although not to be out done the author made sure it was there in spades the sexual tension and the smoldering looks to boot. Rachael and Diego were both accomplished sports persons Diego in Polo and Rachael in show jumping and they both had a love and an affinity for animals, as well as sharing not so happy childhoods, with parents who in no way will ever make parent of the year. The process of their relationship from hot and heavy looks, innuendos and verbal sparring to an actual physical love affair was a refreshing, in the sense that even though Rachael was a virgin she didn't behave naively she went into the affair with Diego knowing full well there it was a no-strings attached affair, they both went into the situation understanding that it was only going to be a summer fling, but of course things didn't work out that way and Rachael ends up falling pregnant and , the way that it happened was believable; she's on birth control but it fails because she has to start a course of antibiotics after suffering from an accident she sustained working with the horses, and of course its a well documented medical fact that some antibiotics lower the effectiveness of birth control; and although this is fiction I must ask, where were the condoms in this relationship? Yes, Rachael was a virgin, but Diego darn sure wasn't and in this day and age I think that was a poor showing on the author's part to make a point that Rachael was on birth control but just kinda poo-pooed the fact that the first time Rachael and Diego had sex it was unprotected, that being my ownly0. 0 gripe with this book. I also really loved how the author showed that Rachael was prepared to make some realistic decisions about whether to keep her baby or not, that she showed real human emotion and yes for once wasn't just going to lie down and accept her lot in life, and as horrible as this may sound I was glad for once a heroine though about adoption and had real honest to goodness feelings of resentment for her situation as a whole and not just towards Diego. I also liked the fact that she did try and contact Diego when she discovered she was expecting and she didn't try to play the independent woman role to her and her child's detriment; and for once a hero although grudgingly accepted responsibility in his role as father and we didn't have to spend the majority of the book having him call Rachael every foul name in the book and accusing her of being the town tramp. All in all I loved this book for its strong heroine and if not so politically correct hero at least he has potential.

Arrogant polo player, sweet horsewoman

Author Chantelle Shaw never fails to deliver and the Argentinian Playboy, Unexpected Love-Child is no exception. From Shaw's debut book, I've read everything she's written and her stories are always very powerful and focused on the alpha male and Diego Ortega is just that. He's handsome, quite the ladies man, rich and has a childhood secret which will rock the reader's world. Diego arrives in England to assist in training the Hardwich Polo club and getting them ready for a championship match. What is doesn't count on is meeting the very beautiful Rachel, a stable girl who is thrown off her horse. His entire time spent at Harwich, he is attracted to this sweet and talented horsewoman who's unstable family history and story will break one's heart. It's the typical natural beauty and arrogant alpha love story.....they meet, have an affair, she gets pregnant and he forces her to marry for the sake of the child. However, don't be misled by this petite woman with a heart as strong as the horse she rides and adores. She's fierce, loves with a passion and it may take a long time but she wins the love this this stubborn man! What I found so beautiful about this story is that they both healed each other with their passion and love.
