Whosoever takes the sword Caladfwlch from the Stone is the true born High King of Briton. With those words, Myrddin, incomparable counselor to kings, has fulfilled his vow to Ambrosius, the last Emperor of the West: the great sword Caladfwlch of the Hard Lightening would next be in the hands of the King of the Summerlands. Myrddin had prophesied a child born of a dark sin, a child who would grow into manhood in the fosterage of a noble family, a child who would be forged into the King of the Summerlands: Arthur. ARD RIGH chronicles the early life of Arthur, the burgeoning King of Summer, following the legendary character from his much-anticipated birth, through his heroic ascension to the Sovereignty of Briton, culminating in his defense of Sovereignty itself against the treasonous renegade Lot.Ray Cattie is on the "...list of what we consider to be the most important Arthurian fiction writers from the start of the twentieth century onwards." A well-told story with characters that I cared about, well-written from beginning to end! I couldn't stop reading it-- it took me three days! If this is his first, I can't WAIT to read more! This is an author who will be leaving his mark in the gnere!

When I first saw 'Ard Righ: The Sword on the Stone,' I thought-- oh no, not another Arthur book! That is, until I read it... Mr. Cattie does Mallory proud, breathing life once again into the fantastical stories of King Arthur and his legendary Knights of the Round table!
Best of the Contemporary Arthurs!
