Graciosa Island belongs to the Azores Archipelago (Portugal) and is located at latitude 39 - 39 06' N and longitude 27 56' - 28 05' W. The island lies in the North Atlantic Ocean and is part of the Azorean Microplate, formed by the "triple junction" of the Eurasian, African and North American lithospheric plates. The effusive rocks studied were classified as basalt, mugearite, benmoreite and trachyte.
