This is a summary of archaeological research at 38AK496, The B.F. Landrum stoneware kiln site. This kiln was operated by B.F. Landrum Sr. and Jr. between about 1848 and 1920. The potters were mostly African-Americans who worked both as slaves and Freedmen. Included here are discussions of the site's environmental and cultural contexts, fieldwork conducted in 1987, 1993, and 2014, and analysis of an extensive artifact collection made in 1993. Illustrations include maps, field photos and numerous artifact photos focused primarily on diagnostic features such as handles, rims and decorations/marks.
