While this is not the author's first book about people and places, it is his best. His stories, centering on April's simple statement about growing up, will ring true for most people. He discusses people and events in important aspects of his life: family, friends and faith. His personal observations on historical events of the 60s and 70s are informative. Many events are humorous. All are narratives based on real life experiences. The stories begin in the small town of Fulton, NY in the 1940s, and continue through the last half of the 20th century and into the 21st, in this great country we call America. The author shares ideas that have helped him and others navigate many of life's twists and turns. The people in the book are real. You will recognize many of them. Others perhaps have different names based on your own experiences. It is a brief and inspiring read.
