Jennifer shares the details of her inner and outer struggles to find her place in the physical world as well as the spiritual. The book starts with Jennifer's meeting with Lynn Andrews, a shaman she felt a great connection to after reading her books. It goes on to chronicle her struggles with self worth, living through a bad marriage, the difficult birth of her son, and finally moving out on her own as a single mother. This is a very candid book. Jennifer talks about her fears and mistakes as well as how difficult it was for her to let go of old habits. She shares her growth too, and some of the visions she had along the way. The strong link that is formed between herself and Lynn, as well as the connection to Lynn's teachers, all wise women of great spiritual power, is inspiring. As in many traditions that have a teacher/apprentice system of transmission Lynn expected Jennifer to do a great deal of hard work to advance on her spiritual path. It was interesting how Jennifer was able to use many of the techniques that she learned from her teacher in her own practice as a therapist. Sometimes the very thing she struggled with was mirrored in a problem or situation a client came in to see her about, giving her new insight on her own life.I would recommend this book for any woman working on the spiritual part of herself, or even trying to heal emotional wounds. I was encouraged that even with all that Jennifer went through she never gave up on her beliefs.
