Apartment 4C
There are things trauma teaches you to notice.
Footsteps that stop when yours do.
A shadow that stays too long in the hallway. The feeling of being watched at 2 a.m.Six months after a man broke into her home and nearly killed her, Lena Ortiz hosts a true-crime podcast about women nobody believed in time. She has new locks, a new building, and a therapist she stopped seeing after two sessions. The hypervigilance is temporary, she tells herself. Trauma leaves echoes. That's all this is.
Then, at 12:43 a.m., she looks across the courtyard of the Marlowe Building and sees a man standing at the window of Apartment 4C.
Watching her.
By morning the window is empty. The building manager says 4C has been vacant for over a year. The neighbors say she's imagining things. So Lena starts recording, photographing, documenting the dark apartment across the courtyard - building a case the way she's built a hundred episodes.
She finds hours she can't account for. Footage that contradicts her own memory. Bruises with no explanation.
Someone in this building is watching her.
The harder question is what she did during the nights she can't remember.
And the most dangerous thing about paranoia?
Sometimes it's earned.
