An enthralling story

"Anywhere she runs" is the first book by Debra Webb that I read and it fascinated me because of it's thrilling story and strong characters. When Police Detective Adeline Cooper is sent a mysterious note and pics of an abducted woman she knows that some crazy killer has made her one of his targets. The abducted woman leeds her back to her hometown which she was forced to leave nine years ago and back to Sheriff Wyatt Henderson, the man she loved but who betrayed her. Many people in her hometown don't want her back and working close with Wyatt is hard, but Adeline is not one to give up. She is determined to rescue the missing woman and to solve the mystery behind her disappearance. When it's uncovered that she and the abducted woman have more in common than Adeline could imagine, she needs Wyatt's support to solve the crime and to survive. "Anywhere she runs" fascinated me right from the first sentence and I couldn't stop reading until I finished the last page (it was 12:37 AM when I closed the book and I had to get up early in the morning!). Adeline is an awesome heroine and I loved learning more about her and especially her past with Wyatt. She is a strong woman, that can take care of herself and wants a man who understands and appreciates this. Wyatt is also a great character. Like Adeline he paid for what he did in the past and over the years understood that he was wrong. But because he loved her then and now, I was very happy when they finally talked about the past and decided to give their love a second chance. The mystery part of the book is thrilling, especially because there is not only one bad guy and Adeline's connection to a very powerful family makes it hard to see through the lies. The background behind the abductions is complicated and a dark secret is the root of everything. The book is dark but not too suspenseful for my taste and at the end there is hope for the victims. So all in all I really enjoyed "Anywhere she runs" because it combines a thrilling mystery, strong characters and a sexy love story.

a MUST Read

Debra Webb has done it again. Anywhere She Runs is an exciting thriller that keeps you guessing until the final pages. The plot twists and turns are exciting and imaginative. I have never wanted a "bad guy" to be caught so badly, and Webb's leading lady, Adeline Cooper, does the job. Cooper is smart, sexy and really good at being a cop. You will definately enjoy this book if you like your romantic suspense novels to be high on romance and over the moon with suspense. I loved this book and am sure you will too.

excellent police procedural

In Huntsville, Alabama, on her day off while enjoying a tryst, FedEx delivers an envelope to Police Detective Adeline Cooper. The return address is from her home state of Mississippi. Inside is a note, the second referencing three princesses that she received in four days. Also the package contains a newspaper clipping from the Hattiesburg Gazette stating that: "City Attorney Cherry Prescott Missing". Her boss at Huntsville PD says this is serious and needs to be treated as such. Pascagoula Sheriff Wyatt Henderson informs Adeline to send the evidence to him; she tells him she will personally deliver it to him and will be on the investigation team. Neither is happy with their pending team-up as they have a history before she left town a decade ago; a past that has left him feeling guilty that he failed to protect his beloved Adeline; while she feels remorse that she never let him explain. They plan to go after the killer, but Wyatt vows to keep his Adeline safe this time. The key to this excellent police procedural is that the second chance at love subplot is kept in arrears except when the lead duo argues over safety issues. The investigation is super as the killer and the intrepid female cop play a deadly game of chess with each other while the resolute local sheriff does everything he can to participate in the checkmate to death encounter. Readers will enjoy Debra Webb's super romantic suspense thriller as she gives the Colby Agency operatives a well deserved respite. Harriet Klausner

She's done it again - and BETTER than ever!

I'm not sure I can top Vicky's review - I agree with everything she says right down the line! I am also a Debra Webb fan and she has outdone herself this time. Adeline Cooper is my favorite character EVER! She is realistic, feisty, the kinda girl you would like to be! I usually figure out the plot/ending within the first half of the book - not this one! I had to resist the urge to flip to the back and see what happened! GREAT Read!

Perfect Romantic Suspense

I'm a Debra Webb fan and have been for a long time, but I do believe she's outdone herself on this romantic suspense novel. The suspense is taut, the characters leap off the page--I hope there are MORE Adeline Cooper books!--and the plot twists are outstanding. Typically I get a third of the way through a book and the rest is a foregone conclusion. Not so in this one--and I LOVED THAT! One of the reviewers said this is the perfect romantic suspense novel. Good call. It's incredibly well done. Kudos, Debra Webb. And if you're not considering more Det. Adeline Cooper stories, please do! She's complex and fascinating.
