Riveting

I couldn't put this book down. It's fast paced, emotional and thought provoking on many levels. On an outward level, the story of Elizabeth and Steven has the classic appeal of dramatic romantic stories of American Couples in incredible international settings. On a complex psychological level, it proves that you never know the decadent secrets behind an appealing smile and a quick sense of humor. Elizabeth returns to Barcelona to produce a new film, but there's something else that really drives her. The elusive Steven,a TV sports journalist has a story of his own. Dangerous events are about to unfold as these two come to terms with themselves and each other.

Vividly Depicted

This book is unique with an incredibly well drawn disassociated personality driving its core. Elizabeth's deeply recessed family secrets which she hides in her younger self, the dancer, Bethy, are so appalling and both women so appealing that a personal relationship develops between them and the reader. What impressed me most is how Sheila Rann creates the different passions of each at such different stages in their lives. I've read that Sheila Rann was a dancer herself and the details of that divine struggle are vivid in Bethy. The author weaves these elements into a riveting tale that takes us to Barcelona Spain where Elizabeth's past as the dangerous Bethy speeds along in the café's of the Ramblas de las Flores and her present as the lonely, solitary filmmaker unravels against a backdrop of betrayals, crime, beauty and love. I have to read this again.

What a great read!

Rann's treatment of a dual personality, Elizabeth and her younger incarnation, the troubled and trouble seeking Bethy, is one of the best of I've ever read. This is a tricky business to keep up for a whole book, and few writers can do it. But she does it beautifully. I cheered for both women right through to the end because both are incredible survivors. The author's writing style is very engrossing with original erotic twists. She must know the back streets and alleys of the old quarter of Barcelona very well. They came alive for me with mystery and eerie possibilities. The title of Anything For Love may package it as romantic fiction, but I disagree. This is a very meaty psychological suspense drama. The last section of the book where Elizabeth comes to terms with the events that really happened in her family was wrenching, but the love scenes that play out in Costa Brava are exhilarating. I almost forgot to mention that despite the complexity of the story Rann's characters, both male and female have the zing of live, style, and terrific humor. I give this book five stars.

A thought provoking and fascinating tale

This book held me from the first page. The bullfighting scenes were particularly riveting. I'd highly recommend it!
