- anxiety is a rambling dagger - ian hackett kahl- introduction -In many ways, "anxiety is a rambling dagger" is an autobiographical diary and journal, set in a series of dreamlike passages of imagery, tangents, rants, and interrelated emotions. Everything documented in these pieces is intended to work in the service of exposing the way I have perceived life through the lens of mental illness. This is an honest and sometimes confusing circular narrative. It is a story of sickness- not good or bad, but simply true. It is an internal conversation between the two selves within me and how they fight to control and shape my behavior - ultimately attempting to define who I truly am.Anxiety, panic, compulsion, obsession, depression, and addiction - these have been my primary struggles in life and have challenged me in ways I would never have thought possible. This project seeks to prop open a window into that world - even if only to reveal, in some very small way, how terrifying, convoluted, deconstructed, frustrating, insightful, and beautiful that world can be. For better or for worse, suffering from these chronic mental health issues has come to define me. I am it. It is me.This is the story of my mental illness.
