The Anunnaki, a race of highly advanced extraterrestrial beings and the creators of humanity, have not visited the Terran system in over one thousand years, as they have shifted their mining operations to other parts of the known galaxy. In this time the Anunnaki science consortium has constructed a new vessel called the Ishtar and two Anu pilots, Captain Enki and Lieutenant Enlil, have been sent on a secret mission to test the vessel's new experimental propulsion system. But the ship's new drive system malfunctions, propelling them into Earth's orbit and ultimately to the planet's surface where Captain Enki is stranded with no way to get back to his home world. He then becomes entangled with some Japanese peasant villagers by saving them from execution at the hands of a group of deadly assassins. But little does Captain Enki realise that the assassins are under the indirect control of a Dimuzi warrior called Quarad, from a race that is one of the Anunnaki's arch enemies, who has also fallen to Earth. The Earth year is 1467.
