ANTS IN A JAM JAR is Olivia Snowdrop's second poetry collection. On the one hand, it is about anxiety. There's something frantic about the way ants move, the pest-like connotation, that illustrates panic well. Snowdrop also writes about motherhood here. An ant colony as an organism has one mother, and the purpose of the others is to uplift and protect her. An ant knows its purpose, who it is in relation to other ants, is part of a close network of support. That is to say, this collection begs the question, again and again, who am I? How did I come to exist? ANTS IN A JAM JAR does not answer this but instead follows Snowdrop through significant phases as they attempt to figure it out, using the life cycle of the titular insect to tie it all together.
