I have a broad selection of Shakespeare movies. Yet somehow, I missed this one until now. I have several versions of Shakespeare’s “Antony and Cleopatra.” This is one of the better ones and is noticeably clear in speech.
One of the highlights is Mark Antony's speeches.
I will not give a blow-by-blow detail of the story, as many good books can do better. Yet, it may be useful to have an overview of what you are about to watch. You may also find they took a tad of movie license and adjusted the play with lines moved and or deleted.
Almost every actor can be tracked down to a popular movie or T.V. series. They do look a tad different in age and makeup. It would take pages to point to each actor’s accomplishments; Howler, John Castle played Octavius Caesar. He was also “Sanson Carrasco / The Duke” in “Man of La Mancha” (1972). Charlton Heston as Player King in Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (1996), where he tells the tale of King Priam in Ilium.
Anyway you look at it, this is good entertainment and a qualified addition to your Shakespeare collection.
Marc Antony - Charlton Heston
Cleopatra - Hildegard Neil
Octavius Caesar - John Castle
