ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

This anthology brings together the most representative poems of Rub n Dar o. This edition includes the key essay by Octavio Paz on his life and work.

Rub n Dar o (1867-1916) stands as one of the great milestones of Hispanic literature, not only for the emblematic nature of works like Azul... (1888), Prosas profanas (1896), and Cantos de vida y esperanza (1905), but also for the linguistic revolution he introduced to the Spanish language, opening the doors to European aesthetic influences through the literary movement he himself named modernism.

"But--as Octavio Paz said--his work does not end with modernism: it surpasses it, goes beyond the language of this school and, truly, beyond any school. It is a creation, something that belongs more to the history of poetry than to the history of literary styles. Dar o is not only the broadest and richest of modernist poets; he is one of our great modern poets."

Carmen Ruiz Barrionuevo, professor of Hispanic American Literature at the University of Salamanca, is the author of this anthology, which explores Dar o's poetic journey, placing each poem in its historical and literary context. Readers will have the opportunity to delve deeply into his life and work, and to understand his profound contribution to universal literature.
