Two youngsters, Sebastian Sotelo, a migrant child in Arizona, and Vincent Jessup from Virginia experience similar tragedies fifty years apart. They discover a nuts-and-bolts misfit, a quasi-robot that fits into their chaotic lives. Vincent believes the robot's name is Tixi based on the Russian letters inscribed on a plaque on its chest.
