In this volume, the analysis takes the form of both short and long texts. It is always part of an effort to make sense of the platypus in all its diverse forms and contents-events, news, television or video broadcasts, print media articles, works of art, and more. The short texts can be understood as haikus that, in just a few words, capture the moment of primordial astonishment in the face of the world's upheavals, or as aphorisms and anthropological flashes inspired by the environment during the two-year period of 2015-2016. Their reverse chronological order-as they proceed from the end of 2016 back to the beginning of 2015, facilitating a journey back in time-resembles a heterogeneous collage, heterogeneous, and fragmented, mirroring a kaleidoscopic and variegated reality that is never subject to a temporal logic but nonetheless describes a cycle that concludes with the advent of 2017. A page seems to be turning with a new cycle that challenges globalization and political Islam, restores protectionism and nationalism, and weakens the European Union, creating new polarizations that bring more violence.
