During Anthony's journey into manhood, he encounters the crosswalks of crime, along with sex, death, and the drug scene growing up in the ghettos of Brooklyn. Anthony questions God about his life, as well as the domestic problems that plague the ghetto streets of Brooklyn, yet he is content with the many sexual pleasures he receives and learns from older women, particularly from his best friend's mother and older sister, Anna and Linda. Carlos, also known as Carlito, is a well-known drug dealer who planned the assassination of his uncle, Don Santiago and family. The assassin is to take place on New Year's Eve. Carlito wants full control of his uncle's drug business. Jimmy Garcia, Carlito's right hand man, takes on the task and plots the assassination of Don Santiago and family. Anthony enlists into the army and explores the senseless killing of Vietcong children during his tour in Vietnam. Even though the VC children are the enemy, nightmares and guilt are in betted into his mind, their faces alienated by the crosshairs of his rifle scope, which haunts Anthony.
