I have observed some disturbing developments in the Church that calls for prompt action to deal with. Many young people seem to be messing up in making decisions to serve the Lord. The desire to serve the Lord has become the means through which they are being led into making uninformed decisions that have brought many sorrows and regrets to many. On the other hand others too have made same decisions and are enjoying the grace of God on their lives due to the progress being made. When our decisions are not made based on solid foundations of the word and Holy Spirit leading we are bound to suffer dire consequences. It is to bring biblical perspective to these unfortunate developments that I write this book with the view of educating and guiding those wanting to answer the call of God on their lives. Ministry does not automatically guarantee success unless it is entered into according to divine counsel and the leading of the Spirit. I have seen many people come into ministry with unhealthy motives and expectations which has led to many regrets and tears. Some have unending tales of exploitation by senior ministers, ministry poverty, lack of progress and satisfaction, marital turmoil and mental breakdowns. Some have been led by so called prophetic utterances from "spiritual fathers" to take blind leaps that have ended up in the marring of destinies. It is very dangerous to go into ministry through the say so of a "prophet" without prayerfully thinking through your decision to ascertain whether God is calling you or not. The call of God does not necessarily mean one should abandon profession and vocation to work full time in a Church or a Ministry. The call of God can be prosecuted as a doctor in the hospital, lawyer at court, pharmacist, and farmer, teacher in the classroom and an engineer in the factory. The whole world is God's mission field and he wants people stationed everywhere to carry out His work. The talents and skills we acquire in life are needed in carrying out Ministry work. That doesn't mean God cannot call people to leave their professions in the secular fields to give themselves totally to work in the Church or Ministry. Everyone called by God must understand the implications of the call and how it will be prosecuted to please God, not man or society. Any lack of understanding of the nature and purpose of the call can lead to disastrous ends. It is even more risky going into full time ministry motivated solely by perceived economic benefits or just to fix an unemployment circumstance.
