It began with an offer from my community's local newspaper several years ago. They contacted the church office and wondered if any of us on the pastoral staff would be interested in writing for and contributing to the paper's "Professionwal Advice" column. Upon agreeing to participate, I submitted a series of articles. The purpose of this was to explain to readers the reasonableness of, and the evidences for, the Bible being the trustworthy and inerrant Word of God. This assertion would be especially significant as it related to the subject of suffering and evil in the world: historically and currently. What I did not anticipate, but what was no coincidence, was a series of responses and questions from an apparent reader of my column. I received a letter following the publication of each one of my articles. The letters contained no return address and no identification as to their author except for the cryptic name: the godslayer. The godslayer's questions and objections concerning God must be answered. Whether the questions are gentle, practical, or angry, logical, wise, gentle, and coherent answers must be given to atheists. The godslayer made a variety of assertions and challenges to biblical Christianity in his letters. It will be my goal to answer these assertions and challenges and to articulate the reasonableness and rationale for the Christian faith.
