Great book about values

What a super book to teach the values of helping, serving and respecting elders. Today, when kids seem too preoccupied with being entertained, this teaches that joy comes from helping others. I loved it!

Can You Help Me Find My Smile was another one of my Carl Sommer favorites. The story is about Teddy the young bear who is grumpy and no matter how hard he tries he can't seem to find his smile. The help and advise from friends, even a new bicycle on his birthday doesn't seem to make him happy for long. After searching he finally seeks the advise of his grandfather. As Teddy discovers he finds his smile again by helping others. I would definitely recommend this book for elementary school children. This is a good lesson in wisdom, kindness and giving.

Can You Help Me Find My Smile? is a very delightful book in teaching young children the importance of serving others. As adults we know the importance of putting others first, but this interesting story about Teddy the Bear, teaches kids that filling our lives with 'things' will not make you happy. Often through serving others and reaching out to those who are down and out, we can make a difference, and through that ocassion experience true happiness. Teddy Bear accomplishes this and finds true happiness. The relationship between Teddy and his grandfather also drives home the importance of respect for older people which is an important life lessonfor our children. Sommer does a great job through easy to read language and colorful pictures to catch a young readers interest and keep it. My very active three year old son loved the book and asked for it to be read a second time. Carl Sommer's books are not only entertaining but also educational and help parents in the area of childhood character development! This book is a must read for families wanting to instill character development in their children.
