In the late nineteen seventies Van Morrison reappeared after several years on hiatus, a period during which he had gone from being one of the world's biggest stars to a memory from rock n roll's past - and music had moved on during his absence. On his eventual return, Morrison was a transformed figure: teetotal and motivated, but also garrulous and confrontational. Over the course of the years that followed, he embarked on a journey in which he sought to find independence as artist and explore spirituality in his music; this film is the story of that journey. Using rare archive, live and studio footage and brand new interviews with many of those who worked with Van across the decade covered by this program, a rare glimpse into the world of this very private musician, performer and writer is revealed - one that many fans of his music may find both surprising and enlightening.
