I liked it, but....

I liked this book but I would have really liked it if it had been 200 pages instead of 294. The conflict between Sam and Anna just went on way too long. I have a particular fondness for the Diamond Homespun Romance series of books. I have collected all of them I can possibly find and I am usually very happy with them. They are, as a series, very sweet, tender and innocent. There is always romantic tension between the hero and heroine but not actually sexual fulfillment until after marriage (as a general rule). They are best described as homey, nice, gentle. An old fashioned romantic read. Anna's Treasure fit this mold. My only problem with the book was that the reason for Sam and Anna to want the treasure as individuals seems to be prolonged without adding anything to the tension. Her need to repair the reputation of her family within this small community was commendable but then the author showed that the community welcomed her back amongst them without prejudice. Why did she continue to be so hesitant? Just to prolong the story? Sam wanted the money because he felt it was "owed" to his father and thusly should pass on to himself. But did he really condone what his father had done to get the money? It seemed very much out of character for an honorable man such as himself. Also, why did Anna never think to mention to Sam that he had been shot instead of just falling from his horse? Just that one little thing could have helped move this story along. I liked it, I will keep it, but it will never be a real favorite. Not a book I will want to read over again. Try looking for the books in this series. The hunt is fun and the results are good, clean fun.

A sweet story.

This is a sweet story that is worth the time to read it. While not numbering among my most favorite novels and being very predictable, the tale is sensitivly written with interesting characters, trying to get over their shared pasts. A reader will delight in Anna and Sam as they try to find the treasure and keep the other from findng it. There are quite a few funny parts that one can't help but laugh out loud in response. If you are looking for a light read for an afternoon or two, then this is the book for you.
