The park was re-named Trione-Annadel State Park in 2016. Henry Trione, at age 94, died on February 12, 2015. The park's new name is a fitting tribute to him. As you will read, we would not have this park without his dynamic efforts. "Annadel State Park - The First 20 Years" takes you back to the 1970s, 80s, and early 90's. A history book of sorts, these are true stories and encounters between the park staff and park visitors (or animals, plants, rocks, fires, and even mysteriously buried old shoes), all documented in the park's daily logbook. Park rangers patrolling parks are needed to protect people from the park: I'm recalling that time I told a woman the colorful bouquet of leaves she was holding was poison oak. Park rangers are needed to protect the park from people: "...there was this man on foot, with a large stick in his hand chasing another man on horseback yelling, 'I'm going to kill you ' " Park rangers are needed to protect the people from people: "...One of them took a swing at Tom, who ducked in time to see the wild punch end up smashing our truck's door mirror." Once we found a man's toupee ...inside one of the culvert pig traps. Or that time where it appears a horse with very bad aim used one of our outhouses. A Ranger's job is never dull. Read on. It's been almost 25 years now since "Annadel State Park - The First 20 Years" first came out. Only a thousand copies were printed. Long out-of-print, I've wanted to see this book available again. Just recently I discovered book-scanning services. Hurray Now a new generation can see how things were "way back then"... back when their parents were their same age. Who knows, maybe your parents are in this book I hope you enjoy reading my book. Better yet, maybe it's time to visit the park for the first time, or to get reacquainted again. Even with all the changes that have taken place, good news, Trione-Annadel State Park is still a wilderness at your doorstep, nature at its best.
