This is an amazing book to read if you're interested in the history of life and romance in the early 20th century. The author of this book, Sally Anne Dare, is my mother, and I am very touched by her extensive geneological research of my father's family history. Throughout my life, she has always been interested in old keepsakes she has found in the Attic and elsewhere in the house I grew up in. She was always showing me old letters and pictures, which I admit, I didn't always find interesting when I was younger, but when she put all of these letters from my paternal Grandmother to my Grandfather (both I never knew...my Grandfather, Lawrence, died when I was one year old) together in a beautiful book, they came to life for me. I found it difficult to put down. It's a love story that is so innocent and beautiful. Their love as teenagers grew stronger and deeper for years, and resulted in marriage. My Grandfather loved Anna so very deeply and was so torn apart when she passed away at a young age. My mother wrote a page in this book that told about a quiet conversation she had with Lawrence in 1972 when she was pregnant with me, her only child. She causiously asked him about Anna, and as he told her, he quietly cried. This is such a beautiful and interesting story and I recommend it to anyone...even those who don't live in, or know anything about Minnesota.
