RIDICULOUS, REMARKABLE RHYMES

Youngsters usually love the sounds of rhymes. They're intrigued by words that sound alike. And, Jane Yolen seems to have a built in radar for detecting what children will enjoy. She's right on target with "Animal Fare." Vividly illustrated by Janet Street, this slim volume of poetry features a lilting collection of imaginary animals such as "The Bumple Bee," who is also very messy, and "The Sprinkler Spaniel" who shakes his soggy head and makes soggy tracks. It's all in good fun as youngsters will be the first to recognize.
