Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist, is woken in the middle of the night by a phone call that is going to change his life. This phone call may also change our lives. Dan Brown weaves many story threads into a tapestry of intrigue. The story takes place over a 24-hour period. A positive thing about this tale is that it is told in a linear fashion with very few flashbacks, except when it is necessary for a back-story. In this story, he treats Robert Langdon’s character as if Langdon is not aware of many well-known technical items and theories; this may be true of Robert Langdon, but Dan Brown also irritatingly treats us as if we do not know these things! On the surface, we are treated to a “who did it” and “will we get there in time” story. We must separate the goats from the sheep. However, we are also confronted with science versus religion. Are science and religion like oil and water, or are science and religion just two of the facets of God?

Angels & Demons doesn't disappoint

This book is a non-stop attention grabber. Truly a great beginning to start reading the series.

Da Vinci Code Best Seller? Angels and Demons debería serlo más

No estoy seguro porqué Da Vinci Code adquirió tanto renombre si Angels and Demos es MUY superior. Por otro lado, Victor Brens (quien incluye una muy amplia crítica) se desvía del objeto central de estos "customer reviews", dándonos una "cátedra" de física. Cuando J.J.Benítez publicó los primeros libros de "Caballo de Troya", un amigo ingeniero me platicó cuán interesantes eran los planteamientos de física y química descritos por el autor. Eso despertó mi interés, pero conforme avanzaba en mi lectura empecé a percibir una exagerada ficción que mató todo mi interés. Cuando empecé a leer "El Código Da Vinci" mi principal interés era relacionado a tanta fama que obtuvo y lo que decían las solapas del libro. Conforme me adentré en la lectura, me encontré con cosas que sonaban demasiado increíbles para ser verdad; pero harto interesantes. Sin embargo, creo que Dan Brown reconoce que lo que especificó en El Código Da Vinci es ficción, y si la iglesia católica ha criticado su trabajo es esencialmente por hacerse publicidad. No hay nada de qué pueda acusársele a Brown en este libro. En el caso de Ángeles y Demonios, las cosas mejoran con la novela (sí, eso es lo que es, una "novela"); dado que si bien es cierto que mucho de lo ahí escrito existe (igual que en "El Código Da Vinci"), lo genial de los textos de Dan Brown es la forma tan "creíble" en que maneja la ficción. Debe serse muy ingenuo para creer que lo que Dan Brown escribe es real; y para creer que él afirma que sea real (si alguna revista o página web ha publicado eso, seguro es por hacerse publicidad; Dan Brown se me hace suficientemente inteligente para querer "chamaquear" -o sea, "to fool"- a lectores serios e inteligentes). Sin embargo, cualquiera que lea sus historias, por mucho que sepa que son ficción, seguramente no se les escapará un "y... ¿que pasaría si todo ésto fuese real?". Creo que esa es la "magia" de la ficción de Brown, que lo hace a uno verse inmerso en un mundo que, al menos mientras se está leyendo una novela de él, le hace sentir que está leyendo Historia, no ficción (aunque, ¿cuán ficción es la historia "oficial"?) y que sería interesante vivirla en serio. Para terminar, retomando el título al que estoy haciendo un "review"; quiero comentar que, de entre El Código..., Ángeles... y "La conspiración" (o "Deception Point"), considero que Ángeles... es EL MEJOR de los 3 (aún no leo "Digital Fortress"). Olvídense qué tan cierto o ficción es, el ritmo con el que lleva a lo largo de toda la trama es simplemente fabuloso. Imposible dejar de leerlo. (He leído varias cosas de John Grisham y Michael Connelly y definitivamente no le llegan). No quiero decepcionar a los que no han terminado de leer El Código... pero si bien mantiene un muy buen ritmo *casi* todo el tiempo, hacia el final del libro... digamos que no se mantiene igual; mientras que en Ángeles y Demonios, yo consideraría que el final del libro es LA PARTE MÁS INTERESANTE y excitante del libro. Sin olvidar mencionar

Great book, thrilling till the very end

This book is the worst book I read ever for getting some sleep. I read it cover-to-cover in a single gasp and went to bed at 5:30 in the morning! It is full of unexpected plots. Thrilling till the last page.Also it describes a lot of details that let me view fundamental issues from a different perspective.Highly recommended !

A true barnburner!

Next to Britt Gillette's "Conquest of Paradise", this is the best book I've read in a long time. I'm a first time Dan Brown reader but I'm hooked! I stayed up all night and didn't quit until I finished, blurry eyed and sleepy. I found myself believing every word and had to stop and remember that it's just fiction! I was amazed at the inside information about the Vatican (especially the library), and I finally got out a map and books from my trip to Rome to see if I could find all the churches. Anti-matter, illuminati, choosing a pope - all of it was fascinating. When I finished, I had to laugh thinking about the fact they never ate, slept or made comfort stops and neither could I. The ending was a total surprise! Anyone who enjoys non-stop action and information shouldn't miss this one.
