Having read this book about 5 years ago, I spotted it on my bookshelf and read it again. Winston Graham's style is sharp and interesting. His three protaganists, Wilfred Angell, Pearl (little oyster) and little God, are all totally different kinds of people and he succeeds in getting the reader inside the head and mentality of each character. Enjoyed it as much the second time as the first and have given it only 4 stars because I think the ending could have been better.
