However, as they negotiate the last turn, a string of armed policemen, lined across the bridge, thwart their escape. Mac and Tim duck behind stacked bales as John rapidly maneuvers the boat to avoid the spray of bullets. John retreats inland then makes a fateful decision to ditch the boat, trading it for the dense jungle interior of the island. For three nights and four days, the authorities hunt them. Each day is an exercise in the art of avoid-and-evade, and each night is a battle against mosquitos and despair. John's only escape is in his nightly dreams of past love, adventure, and a jail sentence he once endured as a teenager. But, will memories and luck be enough to keep his sanity and out of the clutches of the island's police force until he's liberated, or will the sands of time spill onto the jungle, marshes, and creeks of Andros?
