Andrew Klavan's journey is one of transformation, both in his personal beliefs and his literary career. Born on July 13, 1954, in New York City, he was raised in a secular Jewish household in Great Neck, Long Island. As one of four sons of Gene Klavan, a popular New York disc jockey, and Phyllis, a homemaker, Klavan grew up in a home surrounded by storytelling, humor, and media.
His passion for literature took him to the University of California, Berkeley, where he earned a degree in English Literature. Initially working as a reporter and radio news writer, he soon realized that his true calling was in fiction. Thus began his career as a crime writer, adopting the pseudonym Keith Peterson for his early works. Under this name, he introduced the world to The John Wells series, following a crime-solving journalist, and wrote his first psychological thriller, The Scarred Man.
