Both Andrew and his wife were entrepreneurs and pioneers. He was a merchant, an investor and gold miner; she took in boarders and eventually managed Sausalito's upscale Alta Mira Villa. The accounts of their lives are drawn from personal letters, newspaper articles and advertisements as well as from historical events relevant to the time period in which they lived.
