Who am I? We have a tendency to look for our identity in the external, defining ourselves or identifying with what we do. We allow our career(s), relationship(s), appearance, and feelings become the defining characteristics of who we see ourselves as. Sadly, we have based our identity on what we do or how we live, which in no way makes up our true identity. But that is exactly the lie that so many of us have believed, bought into, embraced, and even celebrated. It is for this reasoning and other factors that much of today's world, as well as the church and most Christian believers, live in an identity crisis: having forgotten who we are, forgotten who God has said we are, and no longer understanding ourselves as God's people. Our identity, who we are, is defined by Christ alone. It is Jesus, and Him only, who has the right and the authority to define our identity. We have to accept what God says about us, agree with Him that what He declares is true of us, and become the spiritual people He designed each of us to be.
