Archaeological discoveries have shed light on the lives and beliefs of ordinary ancient Egyptians. Using photographs, illustrations, archaeology information boxes, and How Do We Know? boxes--which... This description may be from another edition of this product.
We used this book as a supplemental resource while homeschoolong ancient civilizations. This 32-page book devotes two-page spreads to a number of topics: the Nile R., village life, children, farming, pyramids, the pharoahs, law, writing, medicine, mummies, the arts, war and mythology. Each spread features several paragraphs of text, lots of pictures, and at least one special feature, such as a pop-up or pull-tab item. These are well-done and help keep the information interesting for young students; for example, the section on village life includes a broad-lens view of several homes, with one of the interiors being exposed when a tab is pulled. The material is appropriate for elementary school children and is an interesting supplement for older kids. A glossary can be found at the end of the book also. Nicely done. I would purchase other items in the Explore It series.
Excellent book

I shared this book with my child, a kindergartner. The pages have good text, good drawings and photographs, weblinks on each topic. The book also provided a text box for each topic explaining how modern day people know about the Egyptians called "How Do We Know". I found this especially interesting.
