In Analyzing Moral Issues , the author continues to combine a moral-issues approach to teaching ethics with a solid foundation in moral theory and reasoning. The 8th edition updates reflect the most recent global events: the election of Biden to the U.S. presidency, the COVID pandemic, new challenges to Roe v. Wade and access to abortion, and the war in Ukraine. Analyzing Moral Issues anchors students' understanding of ethics in a broad perspective of traditions, including virtue ethics (Aristotelian and Confucian, Buddhist and feminist care ethics), deontology, utilitarianism, and Rawlsian ethics. Using primary source material and cases to illustrate these traditions gives students the opportunity to practice making real-life moral decisions. Analyzing Moral Issues also can be customized (as a print or ebook) to include selections from Discourses , McGraw Hill's collection of more than 450 classical and contemporary philosophy readings.
I really enjoyed this book that I had to read for a morals class. Each chapter discussed a different issue (abortion, marriage, war, etc.) and it included all sides of the debates including the history, court decisions, and philosophical viewpoints. The chapters had a perfect amount of information and were a perfect length.
Climbing mountains

Ms. Boss has written a textbook which analyzes moral issues that have no easy solutions. She helps the reader to understand how people reach moral conclusions...she disects the foundation of moral thought...she gives foundations of how ethical thought are contructed from family, religious, and cultural integrations. The remaining chapters describe case studies (drug legalization, euthanasia, abortion, hate speech, etc.) which has our society grappling for solutions, with opinions (pro and con) from different modern philosophers and university professors. There are critical thinking and discussion questions which guide the reader to understand contemporary moral dilimmas. There is also an appendix which helps the reader to write and debate moral issues. This textbook is relatively easy to understand, however the contributing authors ideas may be challenging to comphrend. This is a great textbook and reference guide to other ethical authors. In a nutshell, this textbook facilitates developing critical thinking skills. This is the first textbook I own which is battered and "dogeared". Ms. Boss has accomplished the feat of making moral contemporary issues an approachable mountain.
