The Souk Ahras region is part of the Haute Medjerda Mountains, which belong to the Maghrebian mountain range. Based on historical records of landslides, there is a clear correlation between heavy rainfall and landslide activity. The torrential nature of winter rains triggers landslides, with rainfall identified as the most decisive factor. The identification, monitoring, classification, and mapping of landslides in this area are essential given the risks and damage they can cause. Risk mapping using geographic information systems (GIS; ArcGIS) is a rapidly expanding field of knowledge. This advancement allows for the consideration of natural hazards in land-use planning by identifying areas exposed to threats and defining the prevention, protection, and mitigation measures that must be implemented in these areas. This mapping represents a valuable asset for its application within municipal land-use plans.
