An Overview of CSR in Banks in Senegal

The global environmental crisis is one of the major challenges facing humanity today. Given the role businesses play in the degradation of the environment and natural resources, various stakeholders have called on them to assume their social responsibility. CSR thus emerged as a voluntary contribution by businesses toward achieving sustainable development. Given that the financial sector plays a central role in the functioning of the economy, it is particularly timely to examine the integration of a CSR approach within banks. Given that the consequences of the environmental crisis are more pronounced in Africa due to the economy's reliance on natural resources, this study examined the case of Senegal to assess the current state of CSR in the banking sector.
