An Overcast Sky & A Broken Road

By: North, Stephen Alexander

Just north of Khartoum

adrift, for now

one song follows another

one moment indistinguishable

from the next

beyond the movements

the pauses

of my fingers on the keyboard

it is a bliss

not knowing what comes next

there are so many words

and songs to occupy me

if my words run out

in my old age

I drift

and remember

when I ran

where I walked

the trees I climbed

the people I loved

and it's all one life

a huge picture

not just a memory

but a river

that keeps moving

and I haven't found the end

not yet

maybe it's circling around

to a place

where I'll begin again
