I don't know why I believe it, but I do believe it to be a good idea to try to write an autobiography. Not because I am someone rich and famous, but because I am not famous or rich, or even notorious. I'm just an ordinary man. There is an old Chinese curse that says, "May you live in interesting times!" I am a guy who lived in, and grew up in, interesting times - or, at least as much as I have grown up, I did so in an interesting time. That time, the 1960s and early 70s, with its turmoil, social and cultural revolution, evolution, explosions and implosions, made a substantial contribution in creating who I have been and who I have become. There are certainly times when I wish that influence had been less. I am, however, fairly content in my life, now. As this document is being created and written down, the year is 2016, it is early winter and I am 64 years old. I guess if this is an autobiography, I ought to introduce myself, or at least tell you my name. I'm Pete. Specifically, my name is Peter Douglas Bartley Canfield. The rest of the book will be, or perhaps, should be, the introduction, if properly done.
