A collection of 366 brief introductions to a wide range of topics from around the world-all linked to that date in the year. Each is 280-300 words and gives an overview of a diverse selection of global people and events. The year starts with the computer programmer Grace Hopper and ends with the disco diva, Donna Summer. Chronologically it covers from Ancient Greece to 21st century Europe whilst geographically it covers the globe from Australia to Russia (with some detours into Space!). The focus is on non-British people and events; those that are included are of international relevance such as the discovery of penicillin.
