A worldly sea captain is the surprise dinner guest of a suburban housewife. His hostess finds that the reality of the present collides with memories from her past. The stories the captain tells during the evening remind the young widow of lost love and shattered dreams. The captain's zest for living inspires her, while at the same time causes her to re-evaluate what is important in life.This character-driven novella takes place one evening when the captain joins the housewife, the man she has been dating and her three children for dinner. During the evening, the captain shares stories of exotic encounters with leopards, murderers, snakes, dead poets and Egyptian scribes.
