Mental illness in the family/affect on teens/kids....

This is a quick read about the impact that mental illness has particularly on a blossoming teenager. It is a bittersweet story, one which pulled me back to the pain of adolescent years. Take those memories and throw in the challenge of watching your family torn apart by the ravages of mental illness. Beautifully written through the eyes of a young teen, you cannot go away from this without some awareness of the mammoth weight that some kids carry, and yet survive in spite of their challenging circumstances. I hope this author is busily working away - I'm ready for the next volume...

Anticipate, empathize, laugh

I could read and listen to Abby forever. For anyone having any association with depression, this will ring so true. For anyone without an understanding of depression, here is your exposure.Oh, and the book is really funny, too.

AMAZING!

I was blown away by Fischer's compelling writing style. It's terse, it's raw, it's a punch in the belly. Once you get started, Egg on Three Sticks is impossible to put down. The metaphoric language is impeccable. It's much more than Abby's coming of age story. Egg is all about relationships -- whether it's between teen friends (when one seems to have a 'perfect' life with a 'perfect' mom), between sisters, or between mothers and daughters. You ache for Abby, you root for Abby, you may even find yourself in Abby.

Brilliant.

The story of a young teenager and how she deals with life after her mother's suicide attempt and hospitalisation. Abby's voice is spot-on. It's a compelling read.

Wow! What a great book!!

I just finished this book. It is a superb novel. The author writes about a thriteen year old girl in a voice that reminded me of myself when I was that age. Abby is a great, fully developed character who is trying to deal with the loss of her mother at a time where she needs her mother the most. Abby tries to pull off being tough, but deep down, one knows she is full of anger and guilt. I related to this book and struggles I had with my own mother. A really great book! I highly recommend it.
