what a wonderful book!

My 2 year old son loves this book. He recently became a big brother and struggled with having the new baby in the house. He wanted NOTHING to do with the typical "big" brother books. So, I read him An Egg is an Egg and he was reassured that mommy and daddy will always love him "some things never change!" And he now requests me to recite An Egg is an Egg whenever he is stressed...and if he is really stressed he will demand "the baby part!" I will keep this book to read to my grandchildren! It is a beautiful book filled with a lyrical message--whatever happens a parent's love is unfailing. I am saddened to learn that it is no longer in print--I wanted to get copies for all my son's playmates!

A wonderful discussion of change and peace

This is a wonderful book for ages 12 months and up to adulthood. It is a pictorial discussion of the concept that all things change and, while not as things were before, life continues to go on happily. This is a book that can be used to discuss grief topics, such as divorce, death, and moving to a new home with young children. It is a soothing show of continuation through change for pre-verbal children and a jumping off point to discuss these issues with verbal children. The pictures are at times joyful and subdued. All of them point out the fact that change is common and not-all-bad. In fact, good things come from change.
