Charles Spurgeon (1834 - 1892), affectionately known by many as "the Prince of Preachers," spoke to more than 10 million people during his ministry, baptized thousands of converts, and wrote voluminous sermons that sold in excess of 50 million copies. Spurgeon's exhortation to ministers, An All-Around Ministry, is a collection of addresses Spurgeon delivered at annual conferences to pastors beginning in 1872.Contained in this volume are thoughts and exhortations Spurgeon delivered over the course of nearly two decades in order that ministers and students could have a well-rounded, all-around ministry. Considered by Spurgeon to be some of his most important thoughts on ministry, the great Baptist preacher devoted much time, thought, attention, and prayer to the words contained in this book. Here is a must-read for any student or minister of God's Word.
This book delivers exactly what it promises, "...biblical exposition, wise counsel, practical sanity and warm exhortation." And while reading full-length sermons may seem dull to some, let those skeptics go to work on this collection. Charles Spurgeon brings such a passion to the words that one doesn't merely read them, but listens to Spurgeon shout them from behind a pulpit and is brought into a comfortable family of believers (being his Pastor's College). It's a must-read for the mature Christian (especially if he is being called into the ministry).
Spurgeon's Pastoral Heart Shines Through
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
Charles Spurgeon said that his most prolific and highest honor was when he had the chance to teach the young men at his Pastor's College which he founded in London at the famed Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle. His famous LECTURES TO MY STUDENTS has been read and studied by many preachers down through the years. This smaller book on pastoral ministry is often overlooked. AN ALL-AROUND MINISTRY (proper title) is a wonderful addition to LECTURES TO MY STUDENTS. In this work Spurgeon gives practical advice to young preachers concerning the work of the ministry. His desire is to simply glorify God in all that we say or do (Colossians 3:17). Spurgeon's heart pours out from every topic from speaking to prayer. A great book not only for Bible teachers but for all disciples as well.

A "Must Read" for anyone who intends to preach effectively!

I beleve this Book is an immense help for anyone who will give the blessed gospel of Christ. While Spurgeon is a Calvinist, This book is not aimed at the sreading of Calvinistic doctrine, but at providing an effective ministry. Spurgeon is thought provoking and witty, but doesn't dilly-dally, and makes no apology for the great truths of God and his word. This is a book definitely aimed at old fashioned preaching, which is essential to godliness in the pulpit. It is supported by scripture (KJV) and not popular opinion. This is definitely a book that is as relevant today as it was when it was written, and deserves to be in anyone's top ten who intends to follow the great commision of our Lord and "preach the gospel unto every living creature".
