A somewhat older man works in a pharmacy and is an herbalist. He grows plants with a healing effect, but which also are poisonous. And are able to kill.
The older man is angry with a woman who lured him into marriage and also with a neighbor. They both abuse his goodness as a caregiver, but he rigorously puts an end to that.
Because a neighbor tips off the police, he goes behind bars for six years.
After he has been released he seems like an ordinary old man, who is painting at the fen and enjoying the nice weather and his retirement.
He avenges himself on those women after he has been released, but also on the custodians because of the treatment he received in prison.
Therefore, he has kidnapped Amy, a young girl, and the daughter of a future prey. But then things turn out differently...
