Amoxicillin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including those of the lungs (pneumonia), the nose and throat (bronchitis), the urinary tract (cystitis), and the skin. H. pylori, a bacterium that causes ulcers, can be eradicated when used in conjunction with other medications. Amoxicillin belongs to the family of antibiotics known as penicillins. To be effective, it inhibits the multiplication of bacteria. There is no way to treat a viral infection with an antibiotic like amoxicillin. Antibiotic overuse can lead to the development of a superbug, an infection that cannot be cured by conventional medicine, in the future.
