Until that day arrives, we are left to our imaginations. Imagine what it might be to experiencing the stories of the Bible in person. God's word is not mythical people but historical events that happened to real and imperfect people the same as you and me. Through the stories of the Bible, we meet God. As you read this book, my prayer is that you might gain understanding of the biblical historic personality, meet, and experience God's grace.Ancient history tells us of the prophets Yahweh (God) sent to speak truth to His people. Amongst those chosen was a simple herder of sheep and cattle in Judah, Amos. This is the story of the changes that fell upon this herdsman.Amos' world changed from simple conflict free existence to a world that he never thought might be so different. Yahweh's first visits with Amos were in the form of dreams, many would call them nightmares. Each of the nine dreams Yahweh showed him the unimaginable cruelty and injustice of the nations surrounding Israel and Judah first. Then Yahweh showed the sins of Israel and Judah came forth in the last dreams. Each new dream caused Amos to ponder whether there might be a deeper meaning. With the last of the dreams, Yahweh directs Amos to go prophesy to the northern nation. In the city of Bethel, Northern Israel city a half -day travel (10 miles) north of Jerusalem, the people rejoice as he speaks of the surrounding nations. When he speaks against Israel, they ignored him because he is a foreigner.Israel became corrupt and treated the poor and needy with contempt. Idolatry and impurity are rampant with their refusal to heed Yahweh's warnings. After many attempts to bring, the Israelites back to Yahweh Amos fears for his life.Amos finds himself face-to-face with Amaziah, the self-serving high priest of Bethel. Amaziah accuses Amos of being a false prophet and threatens Amos demanding that he stop preaching in Israel and return to Judah with his false messages.Leaving Bethel after Yahweh directs him to flee from Bethel. When Amos returns to his hometown Tekoa, he encounters his old friend Eldad and together they record the events and prophecies of Amos while in the northern nation.
