Amis and His Shadow

Amis was born scarred by severe facial disabilities. He was shunned by all in his village although he managed by his own ingenuity to fare better than his counter parts. When his Lord was ordered to amass a contingent of soldiers by King Richard to free Jerusalem, Amis decided to flee to London where, demonstrating his fighting skills, he was recruited to head a ban of mariners whose master plied a lucrative trade across the channel. Eventually the King commandeered the ship as a troop carrier and Amis found himself bound for the Holy Land. Amis did two tours. The first left him even more disfigured through smallpox whilst the second tour made him rich from the spoils of war. His wealth grew to make him the richest man in London, with his own township and a fleet of ships. He didn't realise that his life was being monitored and recorded by shadows who were compiling a study of human experimental people planted on this earth for further mutation and development to colonise other worlds.
