On the planet Lumora, everyone looks different-and fifth grader Amir is a superhero student with big ideas, a blue cape, and space shoes that light up.
But when two classmates program a StarPad to say a hateful name about his skin color, the words echo through the classroom. Some students laugh, leaving Amir feeling hurt and alone. With support from his teacher, a caring classmate, and his family, Amir begins to reclaim the words "Amir is..." and fill them with everything that makes him who he is.
Amir is a basketball player, a chess player, a scientist, an engineer, a reader, and a deeply loved son. Above all, he is a superhero who stands against hate and helps bring peace.
Written by Amir Council and James Council and inspired by Amir's experience, this illustrated children's story explores the impact of hurtful words, the importance of speaking up, and every child's right to kindness and respect. Discussion questions and an identity activity invite children, families, and educators to continue the conversation.
